More research shows the unexpected benefits of coffee

Coffee is one of the most popular beverages in the world, with many people drinking it every day. But besides its stimulating effect, coffee also has many health benefits, according to recent studies.

A study published in the journal Nutrients found that drinking coffee can improve cognitive function, especially memory and attention. The researchers conducted a meta-analysis of 17 randomized controlled trials involving 1,445 participants. They found that coffee consumption had a positive effect on various aspects of cognition, such as reaction time, verbal memory, visuospatial memory and executive function.

Another study published in the journal Clinical Nutrition found that drinking coffee can lower the risk of chronic liver disease and liver cancer. The researchers analyzed data from 495,585 participants in the UK Biobank, a large-scale health database. They found that coffee drinkers had a 21% lower risk of chronic liver disease, a 20% lower risk of chronic or fatty liver disease, and a 49% lower risk of death from chronic liver disease than non-coffee drinkers.

A third study published in the journal BMC Public Health found that drinking coffee can reduce the risk of prostate cancer. The researchers reviewed 16 studies involving 1,081,586 men from various countries. They found that coffee consumption was associated with a 9% lower risk of prostate cancer, and that the more coffee men drank, the lower their risk was.

These studies suggest that coffee has many beneficial effects on human health, but they also caution that moderation is key, as too much caffeine can cause side effects such as insomnia, anxiety and heart palpitations. Therefore, experts recommend limiting coffee intake to no more than four cups per day.
